other ways to use

Postby dps51 » Tue Jun 19, 2018 2:33 pm

hi guys and gals
just wondering what other ways to use sausage seasoning
as I got a lot of sausages in the freezer and fridge also burgers
how can I use up the seasoning I have over before it goes stale
and out of date
as her in doors the boss is saying when am going to use them up
so she got some cupboard space for her stuff
any help would get me out of trouble and back in her good books
thanks

You could maybe incorporate it in a BBQ rub? Sausage spice blocks often have a high level of pepper - more than you'd use in normal cooking, so It's need something to tone it down I'd think.

I was thinking along the same line phil
was thinking of making a bbq dressing with apple juice and the seasoning and make a wet rub
and let it marinade

Sounds worth a try. I only mix seasonings per batch to avoid this. Otherwise, I end up with unidentified jars of all sorts in the cupboard.

Like Phil mentioned I only mix up enough for the batch I'm making. Although I haven't tried it, maybe you could hide it it the freezer and the boss won't notice it :)

well only just started making sausages so I buy my seasoning pre-mix
so I have a few tubs and bags all over the place
so I got to use them up or bin them
so am trying to think of other ways to use them up

Methinks it's time to negotiate sole use of a cupboard 'cos when we get you making your own mixes you'll have lots more tubs and packets!

I would love to start to make my own mixes
but don't have a clue where to start with what spice and herbs work best with each other
so it look like I need to do some reading and research on this mater
and maybe it will cut cost with the seasoning which will pleas her in doors and I get to keep a cupboard
of my own well I can wish and hope

Do a search on recipes by Oddley or Parson Snows (for example) and you'll see how things are formulated. Also, there's a beginner's guide here:
