I think I've got an idea for a simple cheese press, I'll make one up and post pictures, hopefully over the weekend if I get time.

Its almost complete.
The 2 white cutting boards are the top and bottom.
There are 3 pieces of PVC pipe. All are supposed to be 9 inches tall.
One 4 inch and one 6 inch which will be used as moulds((like the way i spell molds :shock: ))

The 2 inch piece is the pressing arm.


The 2 dowels will be cut in half making 4 vertical guides.

The bottom board will be drilled so the dowels fit snugly and the upper board will be drilled so the dowels fit very loosely.
I need one more cutting board to cut a 4 inch and a 6 inch disk ((both slightly smaller to easily slide in the molds.

Weight lifting weights will be used to apply pressure.

It is made to break down and store easily.


NOTE: HELP AND OR ADVISE NEEDED
I want to coat the inside of the PVC pipe with food grade epoxy .

I know folks who have been doing the pressing in non food grade pipe without problems.

Why use epoxy, and u dont know the long term efects. When it comes to food, I would be very carefull with products that come into contact with acid (cheese process).

food grade is usda approved__what are your thoughts or other suggestions PLEASE?????????

It is the acid effect on the regular PVC that I am concerned about.

Food grade PVE was about 20 US dollars a foot plus shipping and onle can be purchased in 20 ft lengths about 8 meters i guess

Their are plenty of info on the net as to how horrible pvc is so make sure it is food grade if your going to use it. If u cant get around the high cost then buy those protein mix containers that u get in a health food store, thats what I use, cut of the top and drill holes in the sides (drill holes first then cut off top)
