How Does A Person Tell Hops Apart?

I've got two hops vines. One is oppressively massive, the other spindly and weak. How to I tell the types apart?

They both produce lots of cones, especially the monster.

From what I've read, it's nearly impossible to identify hops that are unknown. Sometimes you might be able to make a guess based on when they were planted and the hops grown in your general area. It is possible to have the alpha acid determined (though I've never done it) which may help in narrowing the likely hop type. If nothing else, you could use these hops to dry hop your homemade beer and see if you like them. :D
