Hot bell peppers?

I don't know much about pollination, but is it possible that a green bell pepper plant could somehow be influenced by some various hot peppers we have growing near by?

Much to our surprise, our bell peppers have a lot of heat to them, less than a jalapeno, but definitely there. And they're definitely bell peppers (at least by shape) ... so very strange. Anyone ever had this happen?

the only way this can happen is by cross pollenation or a mistake at the seed company. Did you save seed from last season? growing hot and bell peppers together will produce a hybred but it won't show up until the seeds are planted next year.

We got the plants from a nursery, so it's possible something happened there.

Its a nice surprise
Dads been growing hot and sweet peppers for nearly 50 years ,collecting his seeds and it happens occasionally.
They seem to revert back to sweet too

Chillies are an antient plant, so you can get all sorts of amaizing throwbacks. I had some grow in a bunch, like grapes. Pretty cool.
