LOL yes, forgot everything, but a lot happened, sold house, new computers, and I downscaled for now to a chique condo ( with a balcony ), for 2 years, as I am preparing to buy land ( next to a lake ) and build my new ( last ) house. Imagine how much wood I will have...no neighbours....OMG, it will be paradise...!

For now, no workshop, simple tools...and a balcony....AHHHHHHH, I still have my " red rigg ", but it is 170 KM away, and I don't come there often. But the " tickels " to smoke are back, so I wanted to focus on a SIMPLE CSG to use in my BBQ, as I miss the smoked salmon.

Was thinking of a soldering iron in a can, didn't you have some experience with that ? Have something in mind, but it is always good to use experience of others, no need to invent the wheel.

I will keep the forum updated with pics as I did in the past, mind you, all the old info about my red rigg is lost.

Yes I still use the stainless steel spaghetti jar force fed by the aquarium pump. You can find my exploits with a soldering iron and a bean can on the forum, but I claim little credit for that one

I've previously seen lots of Venturi cold smokers online, but this particular DIY rig above is not a Venturi design. It's using "linear" air pressure, up from the bottom, through a column of wood chips, then bubbled through water. I'm guessing this would need more air pressure than a standard aquarium pump used with a Venturi cold smoker, although I can't be sure.

I wanted to know if anyone has had any experience in this sort of smoke-through-water design, and/or if they know how much air pressure is needed to make it work. Like I said, this is not a Venturi design.

The plumbing of mine is identical to that one on the artisan site, the only difference is I didn't deliberately fill the reservoir with water, I reasoned that in cold weather the nasties would condense out on the sides of the container without further help. In practice a lot of water vapour from combustion did condense out so I had to empty it periodically. I doubt it would need any extra pressure to bubble through water from the start, most aquarium pumps are more than capable of bubbling through several feet of water.

With the rig you set up -

Are the wood chips burnt from the top down, using a heat bead? Or burnt from the bottom up?
Did the aquarium pump you used provide enough pressure to blow air up through the column of wood chips from the bottom? Do you have a pressure/air flow rating that can be used as a minimum?
What/how is your reservoir chamber set up?
How effective is your rig in filtering/cleaning out the creosote and other nasties from the smoke?
If you're able to provide photos, that would be great.
