PH Meter??

Just wondering what everyone suggests for PH Meters to test the PH of meat? I have been trying to use paper but to be honest it is a difficult and imperfect way to test as half the time I end up checking and trying to decide which colour is the right colour, squinting, messing about and guessing. So, without spending a ton of money, what would be the best one to buy? I don't necessarily need the cheapest just something that is reliable and works properly. Suggestions??

No ComradeQ, that's for fish tanks I think. We have one called a HI 99163. Unfortunately they cost a bit more.

Why is it always so expensive? Lol, $366 plus tax and shipping ... over $400 is more than I wanted to spend. Wonder if there is a cheaper option? Will have to keep researching ...

Spear Tip pH electrode ( included ), ideal for penetration pH measurement into soil, meats, cheese
and other type of measurements requiring sample penetration. The electrode features a very durable

...and it's very nicely priced at <£50.

There's also another model that's a full set with solutions etc:

Phil, a bit late I know but I wanted to thank you for the suggestion ... ordered the kit ... cost me $140 canadian with shipping. That was still the best price I have found even all the way from the UK

Seems to work perfectly on the two applications I have used it for (both liquids). I have not tried it with cured meat products yet but I will let you know when I do. I assume with the spear tip that you just pierce it into the salami to get a reading?

Sorry to resurrect an old thread but just wanted to post a warning ... that PH meter I bought well the first probe was broken when I removed from the package. Credit to Digital Meters they immediately mailed out a replacement probe ... on the third use the body of the "virtually unbreakable epoxy" probe just broke on me when I submerged in distilled water to rinse it off. This happened ages ago, sorry should have posted the update then. I notice that they have now discontinued the product, most likely because it broke so easily.

With that said I'm now searching for a replacement one and I think something more rugged is in order. Anyone ever use this one http://www.thermoworks.com/products/ph/ph-spear.html? Any suggestions on something similar?

Just a thought ... the digital reader is still functional ... if I were to use that probe you linked to with the Lutron do you think it would work? Both have BNC connectors just wondering if that would make them interchangeable?

I wondered the same thing, but I can't find anything online to either confirm or deny it.
