Sausage Rolls for the Nurses

Postby NCPaul » Wed May 13, 2020 10:58 am

My wife, who is a very good person, has been making once a week small baked treats for our local nurses. Scones with strawberry jam and clotted cream ( the clotted cream confused them. :D ). This week they wanted something savory so they are getting Thurlaston sausage rolls ( sorry Phil, store bought puff pastry ). I'll make the sausage this evening and she'll take it from there. It feels good to do something for those we have to depend on when we are at our worst.

I up the spice block a bit for sausage rolls and add a little cornflour (cornstarch) to help stop any fat escaping.

You're right about your wife - she's a good person. Say Hi from us.

This week, mini-pies with a bottom layer of stuffing, walnuts and dried cranberries in the middle and chicken and pork as the top layer. These pies are about 2 inches (5 cm) across; we spent more time making them than they will spend eating them. :D

NCPaul - what's the story in the US with scones? Jam on first or cream on first? The debate is enough to divide neighbouring counties here in the UK!

Savoury; sausage rolls are not well known in this area so we get a lot of credit for just being different. It helps that the sausage is well made too. :D
