schools?

hello! can anyone help, pls? :shock:

am interested in learning how to make authentic german sausages. can anyone suggest sausage-making/culinary schools in Germany (if there are any)?

have been scouring the web for any clue, but 'til now, have not come across anything solid. will be planning a trip to Germany (europe actually) in the coming months, and was hoping to make this part of my itinerary.

please help!

It would have been handy if you had told us where you are from. I'll assume America. I think your best bet is ring up or email the German consulate after all that is part of their job, to promote their country.

I believe there are several specialist sausage making schools in Germany as it is a recognised qualification. It's not a short course either - something like 6 months full time training.

thanks for all your replies:) (a million thanks to the founder of this forum and site)

i'm from the Philippines and that is exactly what i'm looking for - 6 month to 2 year courses that can really familiarize me with the nuances of sausage making. will check with the German embassy here and the Goethe Institute. thanks again!

if anyone out there has more info or suggestions, i'd be more than glad to hear them :)

I Live here in Sunny Germany and to be honest you will be surprised at how many different types of Bratwurst there are here!! would you want to speicialise in any one type? i mean your looking at things like Wei�wurst,Thuringerwurst,Gefugelwurst,Bratwurst!!Krackauer ect!! to name but a few!!! every region has their own recipe to make them!!
There are a lot of places where you can find a good school and learn how to make them but they are not cheap.

You will have to learn German otherwise you will be lost and the Germans also have what they call the "Reinheitsgebote" which is basicaly the rule that only certain things are allowed to be put into certain wurst�s or the cannot be called a wurst!!.

I tried a Bratwurst from the UK and they were gopping to say the least!!

You might try looking at this website for culinary schools in the US. It'll allow you to search by geography and school emphasis (professional, casual, etc).

Hi wurst.

Most has been said here about training in Germany for sausage making.
The main requirement is that you speak and read German as all the schooling will be in German and so are all the recipes.

It also has been mentioned that Germany has very strict laws as to what can be put into a sausage, Switzerland has evn stricter laws.

This link may help ypu to find a school or butcher willing to train you, but it is in German.

This is the link directly to the German Master Butcher Guild. In Germany and Switzerland only a Master Butcher has the legal right to train you.
